Golfer’s elbow (medial epicondylitis), is a kind of tendinitis very similar to tennis elbow. Golfing is just one of several sources of this affliction, which could result from any activity resulting in overuse of tendons and the muscles of the forearm. The pain at the elbow is much like tennis elbow. Golfer’s elbow the inflammation and pain occur at the inside or medial side of the joint.

The medial epicondyle is a bony prominence on the inside of the elbow. It’s the point for muscles used to bend down the wrist. Repetitive and forceful bending of the wrist and the fingers may result in small ruptures of the tendon and the muscle in this region. While the golf swing causes tightness in the flexor muscles. Tendons might lead to medial epicondylitis, other activities could cause the same injury.

Repetitive stress into the tendons of the forearm and the flexor muscles. Sudden trauma or blow to the elbow. Repeated stress is put on the arm when accelerating the throwing motion. Underlying health problems such as neck problems, gout, arthritis or rheumatism.

Pain resulting from grasping or lifting objects. Tenderness and pain in the epicondyle. It gets worse when the wrist is flexed.  It is difficult to extend the forearm.

RICER for 48-72 hours. Avoid any activities that cause repetitive stress to the elbow. The use of an anti-inflammatory diet.

Involving golfing, the affliction can be prevented or reduced altogether through attention to the right technique and overuse. A golfer’s elbow often appears early in the golf season when tendons and muscles are not conditioned yet. It is important to avoid painful activities in rehabilitation The use of an anti-inflammatory diet and pain medication will help reduce symptoms. Resistive exercises could be undertaken to enhance strength.

Long-term prognosis

People suffering from golfer’s elbow usually make a complete recovery with no surgery if the proper rest is given from the stressful activity.
